It may be that you are a prospective author using a proofreading service for the first time, are a company who uses freelancers t o even out peaks & troughs or you may be viewing my site from outside the UK and considering using a UK proofreader. Often, well designed copy, be it in a publication or on a website, when written by a non-native English speaker, is let down by errors that can only be spotted by a proofreader whose first language is English.
Whatever your situation I hope I can help you.
Copy-editing or proofreading
A copy-editor will, in short, be looking out for anything that is wrong with the text. This includes:
- spelling
- grammar
- incorrect use of words
- punctuation
- adherence to style
It does not include checking factual content or design style which would have been checked prior to this stage.
The proofreader will make sure there are no:
- typographical errors
- spellings left uncorrected
- consistency errors
I want to keep it simple. Potential clients want to know;
- that their book, promotional material, essay or whatever will be returned with mistakes and inconsistencies properly corrected
- the charge will be fair and straightforward
- that the job will be completed within the agreed timeframe
- that they know who they are dealing with and will receive a professional service
